What Audio Recorder Lite Does

Built with precision to solve real problems without adding complexity.

One Click Capture

Pick a tab, click Start, click Stop. The file appears in your Downloads folder.

No Time Limit

Record a 30 second clip or a 3 hour stream. Only disk space stops you.

No Watermark

The output file is yours. No vendor branding inside or on the audio.

MP4 or WebM

Saves MP4 (AAC) when supported, WebM (Opus) otherwise. Plays in QuickTime, VLC, and most modern editors.

Live Badge

A REC badge on the toolbar icon while capturing. You always know it is running.

Zero Network

No outbound requests. No analytics. No remote code. The audio never leaves your device.

Yes. No premium tier. No ads.
MP4 (AAC) when your browser supports it (Chrome 130+, Edge), WebM (Opus) otherwise. The file extension matches what is inside.
No. Disk space is the only ceiling. Long recordings still finalize cleanly when you click Stop.
No. The audio is saved straight to your Downloads folder via the browser. It never leaves your machine.
It uses chrome.tabCapture and chrome.offscreen. Neither exists in Firefox's WebExtension API, so there is no clean way to capture a single tab's audio there.
Most likely the tab was not actually playing audio when you clicked Start, or you started recording on a restricted page like the Chrome Web Store. The extension captures whatever the tab is outputting through the audio pipeline. Refresh the tab, hit play, and try again.
Not in this version. Audio Recorder Lite is scoped to the audio playing inside a single browser tab. For mic plus tab mixing, screen-recorder-lite or an external tool like OBS is a better fit.
Your browser's default Downloads folder. The filename starts with recording- followed by date and time, ending in .m4a or .webm. The popup shows a Show in folder button after stop.
